Experience a captivating musical journey through the rich sound world of Mongolia, where ancient traditions meet contemporary creativity. During this 70-minute explanatory concert, Beatbox Ray takes you beyond a traditional performance by sharing the stories behind his music, instruments, and artistic journey.
Known as one of Mongolia's pioneering beatbox artists, Beatbox Ray combines beatbox with traditional Mongolian jaw harps, overtone techniques, and indigenous instruments to create a musical language unlike anything you've heard before. Throughout the concert, he introduces each instrument, explains its cultural background, and demonstrates how these centuries-old traditions continue to inspire modern music.
Whether you're already interested in world music or simply curious to discover something completely new, this performance offers an inspiring introduction to one of Mongolia's most innovative contemporary artists.
About the Venue
Located in the iconic blue building designed by architect Sjoerd Soeters, Theater de Omval has been the cultural heart of Diemen (Amsterdam, Netherlands) for many years, presenting an inspiring program of theatre, music, film, and cultural events.

What to Expect
More than just a concert, this is an intimate and interactive musical experience. Throughout the evening, Beatbox Ray performs a selection of original compositions and traditional-inspired pieces while explaining the techniques, instruments, and ideas behind each performance.
You'll discover the unique sounds of several traditional Mongolian jaw harps, hear how beatbox and traditional music can blend seamlessly together, and gain insight into Mongolia's rich musical heritage. The explanatory format creates a relaxed atmosphere where music and storytelling come together, making the concert accessible to both newcomers and experienced world music enthusiasts.
Following the performance, there will be an opportunity to meet Beatbox Ray and purchase authentic Mongolian jaw harps brought directly from Mongolia.

Beatbox Ray
Musician
Beatbox Ray (Narandelger Byambaa) is one of Mongolia's pioneering beatbox artists and the founder of both the Mongolian National Beatbox Association and the Mongolian Ethnic Jaw Harp Players Association. His unique performances combine beatbox with traditional Mongolian jaw harps and other indigenous instruments, creating a distinctive musical style that bridges ancient traditions and contemporary music. As both a performer and teacher, he has represented Mongolia at festivals and cultural events throughout Asia and Europe.
Rowan Hartsuiker
Host @ Altai
Rowan became fascinated by the music of Mongolia around 2006 at the age of seventeen. Soon after, he traveled to Mongolia to explore the country and its culture more deeply. Since then, Mongolian music and traditions have become an inseparable part of his daily life. In 2014, he married Saran, and together they have worked ever since on their shared dream: introducing Mongolian culture and music to Europe through Altai.
