On Friday evening, August 28, Altai presents a special concert with Baatarsuren Chadraabal and Rowan Hartsuiker in Amsterdam. The intimate atmosphere and warm acoustics of the venue create the perfect setting for an evening filled with Mongolian music and storytelling.
Baatarsuren is a master throat singer and instrument maker from Western Mongolia, where the tradition of throat singing is deeply rooted. Together with throat singer Rowan, he presents a rich palette of sounds — from resonant overtones to beautiful melodies performed on traditional instruments.
During this concert, audiences are guided through Mongolian songs, throat singing, and instrumental music from the nomadic cultures of Central Asia. Expect a mesmerizing musical journey featuring khöömii (throat singing), morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), tovshuur, and Mongolian harp — music that brings the vast landscapes of Mongolia vividly to life.
This concert is part of Baatarsuren’s European tour, organized together with Altai, featuring concerts, workshops, and cultural retreats throughout Europe.
The concert takes place at 't Zonnehuis (Zonneplein 30, 1033 EK Amsterdam) — a beautiful monumental venue in the architectural style of the Amsterdam School, located at the lively Zonneplein in Amsterdam-Noord. Its intimate atmosphere and excellent acoustics allow every visitor to experience the music up close.

Rowan became fascinated by the music of Mongolia around 2006 at the age of seventeen. Soon after, he traveled to Mongolia to explore the country and its culture more deeply. Since then, Mongolian music and traditions have become an inseparable part of his daily life. In 2014, he married Saran, and together they have worked ever since on their shared dream: introducing Mongolian culture and music to Europe through Altai.
Born in Chandman Sum, Khovd Province, Mongolia, Baatarsuren studied Mongolian throat singing and traditional music at the Music and Dance College in Ulaanbaatar. Over the years, he has performed with various ensembles and has grown into a respected musician, teacher, and talented instrument maker. He received several awards, including first prize in the solo category at the International Throat Singing Festival in Tuva in 2019 and second prize in 2017.
