Beatbox Ray at Klangkörper Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands

Experience an inspiring explanatory performance and hands-on workshop with Beatbox Ray at Klangkörper Festival in Utrecht, the Netherlands—where traditional Mongolian jaw harps, overtone techniques, and modern beatbox come together in a truly unique musical experience.

Discover One of Mongolia's Most Innovative Musical Artists

For this special edition of Klangkörper, the Netherlands' leading platform for overtone music, we are proud to welcome Beatbox Ray (Narandelger Byambaa) from Mongolia.

As one of Mongolia's pioneering beatbox artists and founder of the Mongolian Ethnic Jaw Harp Players Association, Beatbox Ray has developed a unique musical language that bridges centuries-old traditions with contemporary musical expression. Combining traditional Mongolian jaw harps, overtone techniques, beatbox, and modern rhythms, he creates performances that are both deeply rooted in Mongolian culture and refreshingly innovative.

During the festival, Beatbox Ray will present an engaging explanatory performance, sharing the stories behind his instruments, music, and artistic journey while demonstrating the extraordinary possibilities of Mongolia's rich jaw harp traditions.

Over de locatie

Klangkörper is the Netherlands' premier festival dedicated to overtone music and harmonic sound traditions. Since 2016, it has brought together outstanding artists from around the world, presenting everything from ancient musical traditions to contemporary interpretations using electronics, looping, and experimental techniques.

Beatbox Ray's appearance perfectly reflects the festival's mission of showcasing overtone music as a living tradition—where heritage and innovation meet.

Workshop

In addition to his performance, Beatbox Ray will lead an exclusive hands-on workshop introducing participants to the fascinating world of traditional Mongolian jaw harps.

You'll have the opportunity to explore several different Mongolian jaw harps, learn their basic playing techniques, discover the characteristic sounds of each instrument, and experience how Beatbox Ray combines traditional playing styles with modern beatbox techniques. Throughout the workshop, he will also perform several of his own compositions, demonstrating the remarkable versatility of these unique instruments.

Whether you're a jaw harp player, overtone singer, musician, or complete beginner, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of Mongolia's foremost ambassadors of the instrument.

Workshop places are limited, so early registration is highly recommended.

Rowan Hartsuiker
Host @ Altai
